SambaPOS - Linking Branches (Internet)
« on: April 03, 2012, 06:01:04 am »
Here is a thought ... Not sure if it has been touched yet.

Will it be possible to link different branches with SambaPOS, this will more be in the sense of Reporting, Stock Control, etc ...

Would love hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks

V3 will hopefully support remote branches via an online database. A really big step forward, and a long time before it becomes reality.

But in the meantime, Dude, use emails.

Rule - End of Work Period
Action - Email reports

Or

Trigger - some time at night
Rule - when it is some time at night
Action - email stuff

My next test is via a remote connection for the database to see how it will perform. There is always RDP and remote printing.
If the sites are close enough with line of sight, you can create a wifi bridge to link networks. And yes this can be done - I have installed 20km links running at 50mbps+

If I set an action to save the Work Period Report to file, what is the syntax for the FileName and where does it save it to?

The reports are an XPS file (except for the CSV export), so you save them as wpr.xps, item_report.xps.

By default they will be saved to the SambaPOS2 in My Documents, but you can change the location by saving with the full path, like c:\reports\wpr.xps

Okay, I did not add the .xps extension so nothing saved, will check it now.

I just spent the last 2 hours trying to connect to the SQL Express server at our primary site.

I hate SQL! I couldn't get a connection, but that's not to say there was port blocking by their ISP. And it didn't help that they use a crappy Dlink modem.

Over the weekend I will try coming into my network from a remote site as I have better control over the traffic.
