Object reference not set to an instance of an object?
« on: April 13, 2012, 05:58:09 pm »
Hi John and everyone.
Was working on the product list and portion content.  Switching back and forth from a regular and a large bowl of soup.  The first entry was working with no problem.  Then the second entry give this message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" warning.  Went back to the first entry to see how it was entered and did the same to the second entry but still give that warning.  What could be wrong? :-[

I just tried and don't get any errors. Can you provide a screen shot of the product setup.

Hello John,
Can't get a screen shot from it.  I'm using a pos terminal running on Celeron 400MHZ.  I don't know if that's the case.  One of the entry works.

Thanks

Clone the working entry and try it.
Are you using inventory?

Hi John,
I save a copy of the error in detail from the message.  Hope you can see what I did wrong from it.

Thanks
Ken

It looks like your running SambaPOS with a TX database. TX is only for evaluation of SambaPOS, it is not for a production or testing system.

You need to reinstall SambaPOS with Compact SQL ticked.

Hello John,
I try to reinstall the 2.95 CE version on the pos terminal but still come up with .tx .  I did install another on one of my desktop and got a CE version.  Something not correct here.  About that error, I figured it out that products I entered is different than the heading in categories property.  So that is solved, human errors. ::)
Will try again on Monday.

Thanks
Ken

Reinstalling will install the SQL CE engine, then you need to change the data connection string to create a SQL CE .sdf file. Since you have one on your desktop computer, copy that over and point to that.
You will need to re-enter you products and settings - no way around this. As stated TX is only for evaluating SambaPOS, it's not meant for production or serious testing.

The first time you create your menus, it will use the product name. If you change the product name after that, the menu will not change, but the two are still linked.

Hello John,
OK, thanks John.  I'll try that again and redo the menu and try again.

Thanks
Ken :)
